The Institute of Instrumentation for Molecular Imaging (i3M) is a joint research center of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish Research Council, CSIC) and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) located at the Campus de Vera in Valencia. About 60 researchers (professors and research staff, engineers, postdocs, and PhD students) are organised in three main areas dedicated to medical imaging and therapy systems, high-performance grid and cloud computing, and electronic systems design. Since 2018, i3M has received funding for more than 20 EU projects. i3M research is strongly application-oriented; more than 20 patents have been filed and exploited by global healthcare companies or local spin-offs. Within the BoneOscopy consortium, i3M will be responsible for the development of the high-resolution gamma detectors required for the spectroscopic analysis of radiation produced during particle therapy.
