At BoneOscopy’s third General Assembly in Ljubljana, the consortium reviewed how the project’s different technical components will be prepared for combined testing under clinically realistic conditions. The meeting, hosted by Cosylab on 11 June 2026, helped align the next steps across simulation, detector development, phantom design and experimental validation.
In the accompanying interview, Kilian Baumann from THM explains his team’s role in the project.
His particle therapy group works on dosimetry and the biological effects of radiation at cellular and microscopic scales. The team combines Monte Carlo simulations with measurements using clinical proton and carbon-ion beams at the Marburg Ion-Beam Therapy Center.
Within BoneOscopy, the group provides the dose calculation engine used to prepare treatment plans and phantom measurements with realistic clinical beam qualities. Later in the project, the team will support experiments that bring together the newly developed detectors and bone phantoms for testing at the Marburg facility.
