The BoneOscopy consortium gathered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, for the project’s 3rd General Assembly, hosted by project partner Cosylab on 11 and 12 June 2026. The meeting brought together representatives from the project’s six partner organisations to review progress across all work packages, align ongoing technical activities and define next steps for the coming project period.
The General Assembly took place at Cosylab Black House, with participants from DKFZ, CSIC, LIP, THM, Cosylab and accelopment Schweiz AG. The meeting opened with a consortium dinner on 11 June, followed by a full working day on 12 June dedicated to scientific, technical and strategic discussions.
During the meeting, the consortium reviewed the overall project status and exchanged updates on the development of key BoneOscopy components. Discussions covered the development of 3D-printed patient-like bone phantoms, progress on the primary detector, trigger detector and ASIC electronics, Monte Carlo estimation of the calcium signal, and detector integration and testing at the Marburg Ion Therapy facility. The agenda also included dedicated sessions on communication, dissemination and exploitation, stakeholder mapping, intellectual property and innovation management.
These exchanges are central to BoneOscopy’s ambition to develop a new approach for monitoring bone cancer during particle radiation therapy. The project aims to enable daily tumour monitoring by assessing calcium content and bone cancer regression during treatment, without additional radiation dose exposure for patients. BoneOscopy is funded under the European Innovation Council Pathfinder Open and brings together European expertise in particle therapy, spectroscopy, detector technologies, medical physics and innovation management.
The Ljubljana meeting provided an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration between partners and ensure that technical development, clinical relevance and exploitation planning continue to advance in parallel. By combining scientific progress with stakeholder-oriented discussions, the consortium is preparing the ground for the next stages of technology development and validation.
