BoneOscopy Coordinator presented project progress at the Workshop on Technologies & Applied Research in Proton-therapy

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), a BoneOscopy project partner and Germany’s largest biomedical research center, took part in the Workshop on Technologies & Applied Research in Proton-therapy 2026 held in Madrid, Spain, at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) from 21st to 23rd January 2026. This workshop, organized by UAM and Centro de Micro-Análisis de Materiales (CMAM), aims to foster collaboration between the clinical, scientific and technological communities in the context of the expanding proton therapy landscape and provides a platform to exchange ideas, share recent developments and explore synergies between treatment centers, researchers and infrastructure developers.

Our project Coordinator Prof. Joao Seco gave an invited talk on “Harnessing Particle Physics for Real-Time Monitoring in Radiotherapy: The Promise of Prompt Gamma Imaging” during Session III on “Applied Research on Treatment Monitoring” on 22 January 2026. His presentation described the fundamental mechanisms of prompt gamma spectroscopy, demonstrated its capabilities for real-time particle range monitoring, and explored its broader potential for spectroscopic evaluation of diverse biological tissues such as bone.
