CSIC is the largest multidisciplinary research organisation in Spain. i3M is renowned in Molecular imaging
The Instituto De Instrumentación Para Imagen Molecular (i3M) is a joint research center of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). About 60 researchers are dedicated to medical imaging and therapy systems, high-performance grid and cloud computing, and electronic systems design. i3M research is strongly application-oriented, has received funding for more than 20 EU projects since 2018, and has filed more than 20 patents which are exploited by global healthcare companies or local spin-offs.
Within the BoneOscopy consortium, i3M will be responsible for the development of the high-resolution gamma detectors required for the spectroscopic analysis of radiation produced during particletherapy of bonecancer patients.
i3M researcher and team leader Dr. Seimetz has many years of experience in the development of medical applications of molecular imaging devices and nuclear physics. He and his CSIC team are responsible for all engineering activities and the physical characterisation of the particle detectors for the BoneOscopy project, including a robotic structure needed to support the prototype. After defining the essential characteristics and functionalities of the detector systems and user requirements, they will develop the primary detectors and design the collimation system and gamma detection units Additionally, CSIC plans to hire a PhD student with a background in physics or electronics to support the BoneOscopy project.
With CSIC, BoneOscopy will achieve the scientific breakthrough needed to perform spectroscopy analysis of complex patient environments with very high resolution!
The BoneOscopy project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the Grant Agreement N 101185141, and for the Swiss partner from the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
